Brand Success is a new book by Matt Haig. Subtitled How the World’s Top 100 Brands Thrive and Survive, the book provides a selection of branding stories to help you identify the reasons behind their success. It’s published in May by Kogan Page at £12.99.
Already on the shelves is Peter Groves Dictionary of Intellectual Property Law. With over 1000 expressions defined clearly the book is not only highly informative but also entertaining! It’s published by Edward Elgar, at £70.
R & D Awards
The deadline for entries to the 2011 R&D 100 Awards has been extended to 31 March. The competition is open to any new technical product or process that was launched – ie first available for purchase or licensing – between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2010. New industrial design award
The World Design Impact Prize is a new award created to reflect the importance of the industrial design profession in the 21st century.
Presented by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the inaugural award will honour exceptional industrial design-driven projects that are making a positive impact on our social, economic, cultural and environmental quality of life.

Design Council merger
The Design Council and CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) will merge on 1 April, creating a ‘one stop shop’ for design support and industry advice. Services will include design review; promoting the value of good building and spatial design; strategic design mentoring and bringing together design, manufacturing and services in a cross discipline challenge.

Designs of the Year
A showcase of the most innovative and forward-thinking designs from around the world can now be seen at the Design Museum. The Brit Insurance Designs of the Year take in architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport and can be seen until 7 August, with the exception of 15 March when this year’s Design Awards take place.
